About The Event
We invite you to join JoAnna Selig, BCASE, and Shellee Woodward, ED.S., co-founders of Advocates for Education as they share what their organization does and what role they can play in the lives of foster youth.
Together, they will dive into K-12 education, what barriers existed at each school level: Elementary, Middle, and High.
They’ll give advice on how to help when a student is struggling and what resources are available. Children who have
behavioral and learning differences will be discussed and the following services that can help them:
- Different Diagnosis
- 504
- IEP
- 13 categories of eligibility for special services
- Processes and Procedures
High school graduation requirements, diploma types, college expectations and HSE will be the next focus. This
training will then wrap up with career exploration, post-secondary education, free programs in Indiana and financial
aid.
Childcare is limited. Sign up early!
*Certificates will be handed out at end of class.
Limited scholarships available for foster parents, please contact Renae: R.Furnee@resourcesofhope.org for more information.
