About The Event

Did you know that 1 in 10 children will experience sexual abuse before their 18th birthday? Also, children living without either parent such as foster children are 10 times more likely to be sexually abused than children that live with both biological parents.

Child sexual abuse is likely the most prevalent health problem children face, with the most serious array of consequences.

Stewards of Children® uses real people and real stories to show you how to protect children. The framework of the training is built off the foundation of The 5 Steps to Protecting Children™.

You’ll meet survivors who lived through child sexual abuse, experienced its immediate and long-term effects, and ultimately were able to find healing. You’ll meet experts who work with children and families, and confront abuse on a daily basis. Many of these survivors and experts are also parents themselves.

THE 5 STEPS TO PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN™

Stewards of Children® is based upon the 5 Steps to Protecting Our

Children™. The steps are a guide to help adults protect children using

simple and practical actions to prevent abuse or intervene if abuse

is suspected.

STEP 1: Learn the Facts – Over 90% of sexually abused children are

abused by someone known by the child or family and 1 in 10 children

will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday.

STEP 2: Minimize Opportunity – More than 80% of child sexual

abuse incidents occur when children are in isolated, one-on-one

situations with adults or other youth.

Step 3: Talk About It – Open conversations with children about body

safety, sex, and boundaries is one of the best defenses against child

sexual abuse.

Step 4: Recognize the Signs – The most common symptoms of child

sexual abuse are emotional or behavioral changes.

Step 5: React Responsibly – Intervening when boundaries are crossed

or reporting abuse when suspected is critical to protecting all children

from sexual abuse.

After completing the two-hour training you will receive a certification of completion with two clock hours to provide to your licensing agency to receive foster parent training hours. Please ensure to arrive by 9:25am we will begin promptly at 9:30. This training is for anyone 18+. Child care is not provided.

If you have any questions about the training please email Summer Huber at shuberROH@gmail.com
