About The Event
Our instructor, Melissa Sichting, LCSW, LCAC, has 15 years of experience as a licensed clinical social worker and licensed clinical addiction counselor. She founded M. & S. Counseling Services in 2011 and has provided therapy for individuals in a private setting since it’s opening. She has also worked in the VA system, in a non-profit setting and in community mental health.
She will be covering information on:
- Sexual Violence
- Domestic Violence
- Child Sexual Abuse
- Three E’s of Trauma
What behaviors and emotions can come from having experienced trauma? We'll be discussing what ACES are and what affects an ACES score. A discussion about how trauma makes an impact over a lifespan and how it can change the brain. We will then move on to how to respond to trauma. Trauma informed care will be taught and how to use a trauma informed approach.
- Understanding how rape victims respond differently
- Understanding how substance use is used as a survival skill from trauma
- Understand why individuals stay in abusive relationships
